They're plentiful (except when it's raining during rush hour) and, by U.S. In some areas of the city, you'll be very lucky to find your car in the same shape you left it the night before. And, if you can find a parking space, beware. In many residential areas, unless you have a monthly paid parking spot in a guarded garage or lot, there arean't any places to park. Once you get where you're going, you'll need a safe place to park your car. Driving courtesy doesn't exist in the city. To get through them it takes a combination of foolhardy aggressiveness, extreme caution and a perfect sense of timing. For example, many major intersections have no street lights or stop signs, and many that have lights don't work. The conditions of when to charge forward and when to yield are somehow understood among them. Panamanian's drive in way that we would consider insanely aggressive. GPS's are no help in avoiding these areas, and in fact, can often lead you right into them. There are unsafe areas where you don't want to be no matter what time of day, and you can easily find yourself in them simply by making a wrong turn. Much of the city is a maze of one-way streets, and to get someplace you have to know the maze and how to navigate it. You won't find anything like mapquest for Panama City, that I know of. Unless you've driven in the city before, I can't recommend strongly enough that you not drive in the city, and for a number of reasons.
